RHS students are encouraged to consider two college application prep workshops that will take place in August and September.
Note: these workshops are not HCPS or RHS sponsored events.
RHS Seniors are invited to take part in the College Essay and Application Workshop on Saturday, August 29 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Prep of South Tampa (in the former Boys and Girls Club building near Jan Platt Library). The Prep is a nonprofit sports and academic training facility that is owned and managed by an RHS parent who has generously donated the space for this workshop. The price of the workshop is $50 per student and an additional $25 for a parent accompanying a student. Mr. LeVine will explain the Common App and guide students through the process of writing a compelling essay. Mr. LeVine will also show how colleges review and evaluate applications, as well as the methods and criteria of admissions committees. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to: Seminars@SelectiveCC.com, and indicate “Robinson HS Workshop” in the subject line. Also, include the number of attendees in your party. A few need-based scholarships are available.
Finally, mark your calendars for the Third Annual free College Prep Workshop on Saturday, September 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., in University of Tampa’s Martinez Sports Center’s Sword and Shield Room. This event will feature six different speakers and one main “keynote speaker”. The workshop is best suited for juniors and seniors, although sophomores who would like to get a jump start on understanding the college application process are welcome to attend. Students and their parents attend the keynote address, and then split up to attend three out of the six breakout presentations on various topics, such as The College Search Process, Finding the Best Fit; Strategies for Acing the ACT, SAT, and the Redesigned SAT; Financial Aid 101; Applying to Florida Universities, etc. Space is limited to 140 participants, and this event has sold out every year before the deadline. The deadline to sign up this year is Monday, September 21 by 8:00 p.m. RSVP to collegeprepworkshops@gmail.com.
